“When things around you move slowly, you will find your own tempo”
A nightly interview with Darmstadt’s exceptional Rapper MPT

MPT, please describe your music:
Not G-rated, brutal, but honest, always. I rap about our everyday madness and feel obliged to document it. I deal with the inconvenience of life. I want to make people think because we don't have time to keep fooling ourselves. This constant life in the permanent loop (work, eat, sleep) is hell. My soul must be able to develop, it must progress.
Sounds like ordinary hip hop to me, doesn't it?
Hip hop is dead, and most of what is made in Germany, is a shame. I cannot and refuse to identify with it. I hope that we (Brave New Bass) will roll over the German music market with KLARTEXT, like a verbal motorcycle club.
That sounds very confident, especially since you've been gone for quite a time. So, MPT is back?
I am not "back", I was never gone.
Please tell me about your new album "Klartext":
First, it's a "Halbum" (half-album) because it only has 5 tracks. It is the most mature work of my career. Yes, MPT is now mature. Every word is "cleared" It's well thought out and I'm happy with every line, for the first time in my life.
What first got you into music?
In 1994. DJ Thomas Hamann (Robert Johnson) just put the mic in my hand and so it all started. Then different collaborations with Manges, Bo, Madness, El Ray etc. started. As well as Baggefudda, Die 3 von der Tanke, Ultrafuck and so on. We were really the first ones in Darmstadt at the time and still are.
You immigrated to Germany from Poland as a small child. How was this for you?
As a child I grew up in the wrong dimension. In Poland we had everything, we were fine. I rode on chicken; one was called Charlotte Isolde. In Germany, the polish was driven out of me, even by my family. So, I do not feel home anywhere really. Not talking about it would be so much worse.
So far, what was your biggest success?
Musically speaking, it is yet to come. Personally: two well-managed relationships. To have loved amazingly twice.
So now in plain terms, talking “KLARTEXT”, who really are you?
I am trying to find myself ... to pick me up where I was left as a child. My music and my art (pictures / collages) are, without restriction, where I stand at and what I am. Holy ground.
How do your texts come about?
I draw from the void. It is like meditation, after four days of sleeping (or not sleeping) it's there. All creative people are like Ghandi, the energy always nourishes us.
KLARTEXT is the result of your collaboration with producer MoBeatz. How did you two get together?
We were brought together like a double-edged sword. When I met MoBeatz, nobody wanted to work with me anymore. He believes in me and the belief of just one person can kindle fire again. I believe that God brought us together. Music is not most important here, but our conversations are. And our consciousness developments are most definitely anchored in the KLARTEXT album. Most producers build beats heartlessly, but not MoBeatz. He is a good pilot and surgeon. Nobody has our sound! And in our record label Brave New Bass I finally found a family.
Is family important to you?
Yes, it is. It’s not just about music, music is secondary. It's about the energy that we have and share with one another. We share the same, intense experiences. We all come from the same "Hood". We had money and we had no money. It does not matter, just cohesion, the family matters. And faith. I didn't believe in God before, but now we are his Soldiers.
Your albums have been censored many times. What if this also happens with KLARTEXT?
I would say, thank you in advance! I will tell you the way it is, rap, that is not censored, follows an agenda.
Where does MPT stand in life right now?
With both feet on the floor! Where is the Way of St. James!? If things are going slowly around you, you will find your own pace. Stay calm, start a new text or a new picture.
And what’s next?
It's just beginning, please don't lose your faith in Fantasia! No, actually we are already working on the second “Halbum” and we also have DRUCKWELLE, another project from us.
What do you wish for the future?
No more rent to pay. And that the kids come to my house for hip hop detention.
